Ready to Share My Toddler Adventures

Angie Kalthoff
Hi there! I'm a first-time parent navigating the wild world of toddlerhood—
Complete with the joys, challenges, and occasional meltdowns. With a background in education and a passion for research, I've spent countless hours curating the best resources from the community to help us as we’ve gone through each new milestone.
Like many new parents, I initially felt overwhelmed (and still do at times) trying to do it all, but I quickly learned many other people feel the same way and are sharing their resources to help others get through it. My hope is that the tips and insights I send to your phone can help lighten your load and make your parenting journey just a little easier. I’ve learned from some amazing people and organizations and I hope you do too!
I’m excited to share my experiences and the tools I've gathered—hopefully, you’ll find them as helpful as I have! If you have friends, family members, nannies, really—anyone in your life who interacts with your toddler, please share this amazing resource with them and encourage them to sign up today!

Are you ready to make a greater impact
on the life of a toddler?

When you join the Foqas Family, you will receive helpful text messages based on themes to support their development in four areas. These resources have been valuable in my journey as a parent of a neurotypical toddler. While they may provide helpful information, it's essential to consult with a pediatrician for expert guidance.

  • Type 1:

    Language & Communications Development:

Language & communications development for toddlers is a crucial stage where they rapidly acquire new words, learn grammar, and begin to use language to express thoughts and feelings. Toddlers also develop essential communication skills like listening, understanding, and responding to others.

    • Read Aloud Daily: Regularly reading stories to your toddler exposes them to new vocabulary, sentence structures, and storytelling techniques.

    • Engage in Conversations: Talk to your toddler about everyday activities, ask open-ended questions, and encourage them to respond.

    • Sing Songs and Nursery Rhymes: Singing rhymes helps toddlers learn sounds, rhythm, and vocabulary in a fun and engaging way.

    • Label Objects: Point to objects around the house and name them for your toddler, helping them associate words with things.

    • Play Pretend Games: Imaginative play encourages toddlers to use language to express their ideas, feelings, and roles.

  • Type 2

    Cognitive Development:

Cognitive development in toddlers is a period of rapid growth, marked by significant improvements in learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Toddlers begin to understand cause-and- effect relationships, develop memory skills, and exhibit curiosity about the world around them.

    • Sorting and Matching: Activities like sorting toys by color or shape help toddlers develop classification and pattern recognition skills.

    • Puzzles: Simple puzzles can improve toddlers' fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.

    • Building Blocks: Playing with building blocks encourages creativity, spatial awareness, and problem-solving.

    • Counting Games: Counting objects, singing counting songs, or playing simple math games can help toddlers develop early number sense.

    • Cause-and-Effect Experiments: Simple experiments like dropping objects into a container or watching a toy float can help toddlers understand cause-and-effect relationships.

  • Type 3

    Social & Emotional Development:

Social and emotional learning for toddlers is a crucial stage where they develop essential skills like empathy, cooperation, and self-regulation. Toddlers learn to interact with others, express their emotions, and understand social norms.

    • Cooperative Play: Encourage your toddler to play with other children, sharing toys and taking turns.

    • Expressing Emotions: Help your toddler identify and label their emotions, and provide healthy ways to express them (e.g., drawing, playing, talking).

    • Role-Playing: Acting out different scenarios can help toddlers understand social situations, develop empathy, and practice communication skills.

    • Practice Self-Regulation: Teach your toddler strategies for calming down and managing their emotions, such as deep breathing or counting.

    • Social Stories: Read or create stories about social situations to help toddlers understand and navigate social interactions.

  • Type 4

    Movement & Physical Development:

Movement and physical development in toddlers is a period of rapid growth and development, characterized by increased strength, coordination, and balance. Toddlers learn to walk, run, jump, climb, and perform other physical activities that contribute to their overall health and well-being.

    • Outdoor Play: EEncourage your toddler to play outside in a safe environment, exploring the world around them and engaging in activities like running, jumping, and climbing.

    • Dance and Music: Dancing and moving to music can help toddlers develop rhythm, coordination, and gross motor skills.

    • Fine Motor Activities: Activities like threading beads, playing with building blocks, or coloring can improve toddlers' fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

    • Obstacle Courses: Set up simple obstacle courses using household items to challenge your toddler's balance, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

    • Swimming: Swimming is a great way to improve strength, flexibility, and coordination while having fun.

"Being a nanny can be a blast, but sometimes you hit a wall and need fresh ideas to keep the kids entertained. That's where Foqas Family came in for me! It wasn't just fun projects for the kids, it gave me a whole new toolbox of activities that left the whole Foqas family impressed. Now everyone's asking 'what are we going to do next?'
